I suppose I better explain why mcography and not Iain McLean Photography a little here…
I have been asked by a few people to put my images online, so I went about trying first of all to compile them all, get my Adobe Lightroom sorted out and start to organise them into collections, buy a few domain names such as mcography. When I last looked I had some thirteen thousand images in Lightroom, so I needed to do a little housekeeping.
Once I got them all in a place I wanted them, I then had to find a platform that I could host them on and public easily to, I chose wordpress for this as I decided that I would continue to post images and things after it went live, so it is kind of organic.
For those who don’t know me, or have seen anything I have done before I will give you a quick background, I am passionate about photography but I had a bit of a problem a few years back when I started to really enjoy it, I lost the eyesight in my right eye, just overnight it went and never returned. I immediately thought that it would be over and I didn’t even pick up my camera for over 4 years, I gave away all my camera and studio equipment and focussed on my day job (which was running a small mobile apps company based in Dundee).
Last year my wife and I (Kathleen) decided to go on a trip to China, I though I’d better take a camera then. This is when I found that I didn’t even use my right eye to look through the viewfinder (doh) and that actually everything I did before could still be done quite easily with one fully operable eye.
So, I’m back in the game and looking to go out and get some images again, but back to why mcography, I went online to get a domain name and would do what most people do when naming a photography website after themselves I went straight for the iainmclean.com or co.uk or even iainmcleanphotography.co.uk etc. The thing is, my name is spelled in the Scottish way as I have two I’s (ironically, as now I only have one!) in Iain, my second name not being the normal maclean, but mclean. What would the chances of someone else having the same name also being a photographer? Well, it’s a higher chance than you think! So that names are taken, there is another Iain McLean out there (also in Scotland) and is a photographer who has it and that is why I went for mcography.
I hope you like the images here and if you have any feedback, questions, comments, criticisms or would like to work with me, just head over to the contact me page and send me a quick message.
