Monument Valley

Sunset silhouette at Monument Valley.

Monument Valley (meaning valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. It is located on the Arizona–Utah border.

Timing is key for these photos, the lack of light usually means that you would not need any ND filters, but try and keep the glare off the lens and wait for the colours.

A great place to take photographs at sunrise and sunset (the golden hours), but quite hard during the day because of the harsh desert sun and pure volume of tourists.
